Junior Pictolino is a Ravensburger game for 1-4 players. It is a great for introducing children as young as 18 months to puzzles and games. Junior Pictolino can also be a wonderful development tool.

Junior Pictolino is an exciting rendition of a memory game. The game has four 20cm x 30cm boards made up of thick cardboard that can withstand inquisitive hands and mouths. The boards represent four scenarios namely park, bedroom, market and farm. Each board has six circular sections that are pressed into the board that are pictures that make up the scenario.

In addition the game comes with twenty four, 5cm diameter circular pieces that fit into the pressed sections on the board. These have stickers on them that have the same pictures as the pressed sections. These circular pieces are large plastic pieces that tiny hands with developing motor skills can easily grasp. It can be used as a puzzle from 18 months and allows adults to talk about the pictures in the settings and introduce new words and sounds to children.

We suggest for very young kids, that Junior Pictolino is played as a cooperative game where all players work together to fill the four boards. The idea in this mode of play is to develop motor skills, vocabulary and taking turns. As children get better at this a different cooperative game can be adopted where each child has their own board and with the pieces flipped upside down, they work together filing their board and other boards as they flip them. This further develops their motor skills and vocab and introduces them to the competitive play and develops concentration capability.

The final version involves kids playing a memory game whereby the person who completes their board first takes the prize. In this instance if they turn over a piece belonging to another board they put it face down. The other players need to remember where it was placed. Although by now the childs vocabulary is developed and motor skills are refined, they get the benefit of learning about winning and losing.
The game goes for 10 minutes or so depending on the age is a fun development game. Our favorite introductory game and suitable for very young kids. Makes for a great gift for a child in the first three years of life.
